NIGHT AND DAY

BEACH BAR ON THE BYBLOS COAST

This program focuses on the positioning of architecture within a landscape, looking for an architecture of lightness, and considering an economy of means, sustainability, water and land management.

The initial project investigates individual sensory reactions on the Byblos coast.

The students will develop body attachments and extensions which trigger negotiations and transitions between the body and its immediate environment.

Hearing, touching, breathing, seeing and related modes of sensory experiences will be observed and mapped.

During the second stage, possibilities of site development and site-specific characteristics in terms of topography, ecology and climate are to be mapped and discussed through fieldwork on site.

The gathered subjective sensory experiences together with the objective facts and parameters will be the basis for the development of a design strategy for this semesters objective: a bar on the seaside of the Byblos Coast.

The building proposals should suggest a degree of permanence with the necessary economy of means.

The spatial program is given, but can be further developed and adapted in order to suit the individual architectural concept.
